CATHOSYNC GSI-100 GPS Synchronized Interrupter

In a cathodic protection system, the true potential of a pipeline or structure can only be measured without the IR drop error if the rectifier current is interrupted for a moment and the potential is read at that instant (instant-off). When a line is fed by several rectifiers, all of them must switch off and on at exactly the same time, otherwise the current from a neighbouring rectifier spoils the reading.

The CATHOSYNC GSI-100 does exactly that: it takes its clock from GPS satellites and switches the rectifier output on and off in cycles, in step with the interrupters at the other stations, with no communication cable between the stations.

The ON TIME and OFF TIME of each cycle are set in seconds on the touchscreen, for example 300 seconds on and 12 seconds off. The start and end date and time of the programme are set as well, and the number of satellites received is shown on screen. The unit has two operating modes: a GPS timer for synchronized switching across several stations, and an internal timer for stand-alone use.

Five panel lights show the unit's status at a glance: POWER (supply), RUN (programme running), ON and OFF (output state) and GPS (satellite signal). The GPS antenna connects to the enclosure with an SMA connector, and the cables enter through the gland at the bottom of the box.
