The best water pump controller is the model that matches your pump's current and protects it. A buying checklist, common mistakes, and whether Iranian or foreign-made matters.
"Which is the best water pump controller?" The answer isn't a brand name. The best pump controller for your building is the model that matches your pump's current, protects the pump, and has parts and support within reach if something ever goes wrong. This checklist helps you judge any model by those same criteria.
Buying checklist
| Criterion | Why it matters | How to find out |
|---|---|---|
| Rated current | A model smaller than the pump keeps reporting over-current faults | Compare the model's maximum current with the pump nameplate |
| Dry-running protection | The commonest reason a domestic pump burns out | Ask whether it detects by current, by pressure, or both |
| Numeric pressure setting | Precise pressure, no screw and spring | Are the start and stop pressures numbers on the display? |
| Fault code display | When something goes wrong, you know what it is | Does the manual list the codes and how to clear them? |
| Soft start and stop | Less water hammer in the pipework | Is the time adjustable? |
| Automatic retry | Nobody has to reset it once the water is back | Does it retry by itself after a water cut? |
| Warranty and service | Parts and repairs within reach | Length of the warranty and the after-sales service |
The only number you need
The pump controller model is decided by the current on the pump nameplate, not by horsepower. Two pumps of the same horsepower may draw different currents. How many amps does a 1 hp water pump draw? explains this.
Common buying mistakes
- Choosing by horsepower instead of amps. Read the pump nameplate.
- Buying a smaller model to save money. The unit reports fault E1 and stops the pump.
- Relying on marketing labels. Phrases such as "single cable" and "180 degree" describe the shape of the connection and have no effect on how the unit works. Single-cable or dual-cable pump controller?
- Overlooking dry-run protection. If the building's water is sometimes cut off, this is the most important feature.
Iranian or foreign-made
The country of manufacture doesn't decide quality on its own; the criteria in the table above do. But one thing does depend on local manufacture: the availability of parts, repairs and technical support in the years after purchase.
HYDROSET PM821 is made in Iran by Kian Faragir Vira Co. It has a two-year warranty, during which any defect in parts or workmanship is repaired or replaced free of charge, and five years of after-sales service covering parts, repairs and technical support.
HYDROSET PM821 against this checklist
- Maximum pump current: 8, 16 or 25 A, depending on the model
- Dry-running protection by current (F4) and by pressure (F10)
- Numeric stop and start pressures (F1 and F2) on a four-digit display
- Eight fault codes, E1 to E8, with the cause and the fix in the user manual
- Soft start and soft stop with adjustable times (F11 and F12)
- Automatic retry after a water cut, every F6 minutes
- Setting from your phone with the pump controller setup app
